Explore the heart of Borneo, from the Mahakam River springs Muller Mountain Range, to the Deep Cloud Rain Forest of Kayan Mentarang Park, meet the locals over the jungle trails that lead you to a dozen of small Dayak settelements in these remote deep dark Borneo destination. The Dayak settelements mainly contains a few families who live a traditional live by hunting the rain forest jungle upon their spiritual believes and knowledge.
Day 01: PALANGKARAYA (--D)
Upon arrival at Palangkaraya airport, meeting service then transfer by car to check in Hotel, for dinner and overnight.
Day 02: PALANGKARAYA, ORANGUTAN ISLANDS, DATA DAWAI, TIONG OHANG (BLD)
After breakfast at hotel, by canoe sailing the River to the orangutan islands, to spot the orangutans in their wild habitat, transfer to Palangkaraya airport for your onward flight to Data Dawai at the upper Mahakam River, in te heart f Borneo, upon arrival at the air strip, we will cruise down the Mahakam River to the Dayak settlement Tiong Ohang, the beautiful scenery of karst rocks standing strait in the sky with the emerald dense jungle, is the first glimps of the adventure which await us the comming days, overnight at home-stay.
Day 03: TIONG OHANG JUNGLE & CAVE (BLD)
After breakfast, short sightseeing in Tiong Ohang Village, possibility to trek a rocky mountain to visit the people who live in the cave, or visit the outer parts of the village where people live quite and peace full with the nature, here you can enjoy the sounds of the primary jungle, and enjoy the primitive life, without any facility, overnight at simple hut
Day 04: TIONG OHANG TRADIONAL GOLD MINING (BLD)
After breakfast, you can enjoy the river side with a cup of coffee to start the day, before we prepare to trek to a smaller river where the local community search for gold by penny the gold out of water stream of the river with a rotan plate, we will set up a base camp in the jungle, can do trekkings or do some search for gold with the locals.
Day 05: TIONG OHANG HEAD HUNTING (BLD)
Simple Breakfast, and trek to an Ancient place of the Dayak Tribe, which was used rituals of head hunting and is still a preserved and mystic place for the community, please don't touch anything as respect to the spirit to the jungle and community of the Dayak. Lunch and continue trek passing the waterfall to Tiong Ohang Village, for overnight at Local house
Day 06: TIONG OHANG, DATA DAWAI, APOKAYAN, LONG APUNG, LONG URO, LIDUNG PAYAU (BLD)
Breakfast in Tiong Ohang village, pack our stuff and leave the village by canoe to Data Dawai air strip, to board the flight to Long Apung as the main settelment of the Apokayan region, habitated by the Kayan Dayak Tribe, living isolated from the outside world. On arrival at Long Ampung cruise up Kayan River by motor canoe to Lidung Payau. On the way stop at Long Uro for sightseeing and observe their traditional activities, longhouse, etc. Meals and overnight at local house.
Day 07: LIDUNG PAYAU, SUNGAI BARANG (BLD)
After breakfast, hiking between 5 – 7 hours to Sungai Barang to see the long ears Dayak Kenyah, their traditional houses and their way of life. All meals provided at Long house.
Day 08: SUNGAI BARANG, LIDUNG PAYAU, LONG URO, LONG AMPUNG (BLD)
Early in the morning, return to Lidung Payau through prime forest, upon arrival continue by motor canoe cruise Kayan River to Long Ampung. Meals and overnight at Local house.
Day 09: LONG AMPUNG, LONG LAYU, KRAYAN HIGHLANDS (BLD)
After breakfast, explore the village until departure time for your flight to Long Layu, upon arrival at Long Layu airstrip in the valleys of the mountains, our the adventure awaits. Check in at the Homestay or Local House, afternoon trek through the surrounded forest and village to catch a first glimp of the area. Salt-making is a traditional activity in the Krayan area. The salt is founded in the salt springs and were exchange for prestige items. Meals provided and overnight at Homestay.
Day 10: LONG LAYU, TANJUNG PASIR ( LONG RUNGAN) (BLD)
Trek Through the Forest of North Borneo passing irrigated dry rice fields, the rock complex called Honey Rock, which arises about 40 meters high from the forest. The history speaks through the caves and burial sites, on the route we will have a amazing view over the towering trees in this hilly dense forest. Meals enroute and overnight at Homestay.
Day 11: TANJUNG PASIR (LONG RUNGAN), TANG TAAN (BLD)
Downstream of Tanjung Pasir is a settlement called "Tang Laan" along the Krayan River, Along the way we will pass a rapid and a rock with an impressive human figure carving on it. Meals enroute and overnight at Homestay.
Day 12 & 13 : TANG TAAN, FOREST TREK, LONG BAWAN (BLD)
Two Full days forest trek to Long Bawan, lots of wildlife, almost never seen, will show up here, plenty of primates including Gibbons and Leaf monkeys, hornbills and a lot more will show up along the way. Overnight at Homestay, or Jungle Camp
Day 14: LONG BAWAN, TARAKAN (BLD)
Breakfast, continue trekking to Long Bawan air strip where we catch our plane to Tarakan, Lunch en route, transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 15: TARAKAN (B--)
Breakfast at hotel, free at own leisure, until transfer time to Tarakan airport where you can travel to your next destination.
