Kalimantan North East Corner :
There is not much written about the area of Long Pujungan and the upper stream of it ( Long Alango, Long Jelet, Long Bawan, or along the border with Malaysian Borneo ). Travelers with a bit of patience, time and willingness, can have a unique cultural experience in the dense jungle covered area, but is just for those who fit the description who area patient, have the time, and willingness.
Kayan Metarang National Park (KMNP) is the largest park in East Kalimantan and if not the biggest in Indonesia as a whole. It has a wealth of biodiversity and fairly pristine forest which has been managed by the indigenous people in the area. The Kayan Mentarang National Park is exciting and good for trekking in dense jungle.
Long Bawan & Beyond
The Upper Krayan is at the North Part of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The area is along Sarawak Province of Malaysian Borneo Border, and in the upper Bahau River area, as a part of Kayan Mentarang National Park. The Area is isolated, and covered with dense jungle The Local Dayak Tribes living in the highland plateau of about 1.000 meters above sea level. The mountains give an amazing beautiful view over the cload forest and valley.
The Dayak Tribes of Krayan Hulu are home to the ethnic groups of Sa’ban, and Punan who historicle were nomadic tribes, but now based in a few settlements by government programs
Local people mostly are farmers, they own dry rice plantations, buffaloes and pigs, hunt in the forest for meat or fish.
Near the forest and traditional life style of the Dayaks the area also have some other things to explore, as the salt springs, which produce salt for tonic, rocks and caves, carvings, and the landscape, rivers and adventure rapids to cross.
